This Boat Rocks
This Boat Rocks
Created in 2012 as a fun and exercise boat for those wanting the physical fitness that comes with paddling a dragonboat but weren’t sure that they wanted to race on a regular basis, This Boat Rocks continues to provide a fun workout on the water several times a week all-year round. We are known for teaching residents how to paddle. And if they want to race competitively, we help place them in one of the GrandMasters’ competitive teams. We hold 8 practices a week split between Lake Sumter and Central Lake (Eastport). New paddlers get to learn the basics from experienced coaches, while more experienced paddlers can focus on improving their skills and physical fitness in their own boats. In addition to our regular practices, This Boat Rocks encourages our members to socialize by hosting outside events or meeting together for brunch after practice.
This Boat Rocks has paddlers who have been with the team from its inception and many more who have been part of the team for years. We can proudly point out many of our former members who now paddle with a competitive team in the Grand Masters Dragon Boat Club,
We believe strongly in giving back to the community, hosting two major fundraisers a year supporting charitable local organizations, as well as hosting a monthly collection of donations for The Haven, an organization that assists victims of domestic abuse. We have raised literally thousands of dollars over the years for organizations such as Hospice, Wigs of Hope, Honor Flight, Lake Hills Elementary, Leesburg Humane Society, Relay for Life, Salvation Army, SoZo Kids, Beacon College, Emerald Equine Therapy and many, many more.
